FlatMatchr NZ

How it works

From listed to moved-in: three steps to your next flat.

Direct between flatmates - no agents, no fees, no spam calls. Free and built for the realities of the NZ rental market.

01

Step 01

List your room or flatmate profile

Listing a room for rent takes under five minutes. Add the suburb, weekly rent, room type, move-in date, and a few sentences about the flat. Flatmate seekers fill out a short profile: age band, weekly budget, lifestyle preferences, and a bio. No lengthy forms, no required photos on day one.

02

Step 02

Get matched with the right flatmates

FlatMatchr compares your room listing or flatmate profile against everyone else in NZ and surfaces the strongest matches first. Matching weighs suburb preference, weekly budget overlap, lifestyle compatibility, and move-in timing. You see a ranked list of real fits, not a flood of randoms.

03

Step 03

Message and move in

Found someone who looks right? Message them directly through FlatMatchr - no phone numbers shared until you're comfortable. Arrange a viewing, ask your questions, and when you're ready, confirm the move-in.

Common questions

Common flatmate questions.

Is FlatMatchr NZ really free?

Yes. FlatMatchr NZ is 100% free for flatmates and head tenants. You can browse rooms, message, save listings, and create a flatmate profile without paying a cent.

Do I need an account to browse rooms for rent?

Yes - to protect the privacy and safety of the people advertising rooms or looking for a flat, you'll need a free account before you can view real listings and flatmate profiles. You can preview example listings without signing up.

Is FlatMatchr only for New Zealand?

Yes. FlatMatchr focuses exclusively on New Zealand - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin and every smaller town between. It's what we know, and where we do the best job.

How long does it take to list a room for rent?

About five minutes for a basic listing. If you've got photos ready to go, even less.

Are rooms and flatmate listings verified?

Listings rely on community trust. Automated checks block bots and spam, and reports from users keep things honest - anything breaching guidelines gets pulled. We can't verify every detail, so always view the room in person, meet the landlord or flatmate, and hold off on bond until you've viewed the room and signed paperwork.

What happens when I find a flat or flatmate?

Found a place? Delete the post or pause it (handy if you need to re-list down the track). This removes your flatmate profile from search results so you stop getting messages once you've moved in.
