These guidelines help keep FlatMatchr NZ a safe, honest, and welcoming place for everyone looking for a home or flatmate in New Zealand.

Overview

FlatMatchr NZ is a community built on trust. Whether you're listing a room, searching for a flatmate, or browsing available flats, your actions affect real people looking for a safe place to live. We expect everyone who uses this platform to treat others with honesty and respect.

These guidelines apply to all content posted on FlatMatchr NZ listings, profiles, photos, messages, and reviews. Violations may result in content removal, suspension, or permanent account termination.

Honest Listings

  • Only list properties or rooms that you have the authority to rent out.
  • Photos must accurately represent the property no images taken from other listings, stock photography, or photos of a different property.
  • Price, location, number of bedrooms, and availability must be accurate at the time of posting and kept up to date.
  • Do not post the same listing multiple times to game search results.
  • Mark your listing as unavailable or delete it once the room has been filled.

Respectful Communication

All messages sent through FlatMatchr NZ must be polite and constructive.

  • Respond to inquiries in a timely manner whenever possible.
  • Do not send unsolicited bulk messages or contact people who have not expressed interest in your listing or profile.
  • Do not use the messaging system to share external contact details until both parties have agreed to proceed.
  • Harassment, threats, or abusive language in any form will result in immediate account suspension.

Privacy & Safety

  • Do not share another person's personal information (full name, phone number, address, workplace) without their consent.
  • Profile photos should be of yourself only no photos of other people, children, or identifying third parties without consent.
  • Be cautious about sharing your own personal details in public-facing bios or listing descriptions.
  • If you are asked to pay a fee or deposit before viewing a property in person, treat this as a red flag and report it to us.

Prohibited Content

The following are strictly prohibited and will be removed immediately:

  • Scam or fraudulent listings (phantom rentals, fake deposits).
  • Spam, chain messages, or unsolicited commercial promotions.
  • Sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content in listings, profiles, or messages.
  • Content that impersonates another person or organisation.
  • Listings for short-stay accommodation (Airbnb-style) FlatMatchr is for medium-to-long-term flatting arrangements only.

No Discrimination

FlatMatchr NZ operates under New Zealand's Human Rights Act 1993. You may not refuse tenancy, filter applicants, or state preferences based on:

  • Sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation
  • Ethnic or national origin, or race
  • Religious or ethical belief
  • Disability
  • Age (subject to lawful exceptions)
  • Family status
  • Employment status
  • Political opinion

Listings or profiles that express unlawful preferences will be removed and the account suspended.

Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it. You can use the "Report" button on any listing or profile, or contact us directly via the Contact page.

All reports are reviewed within 2 business days. We will not share your identity with the person you report.

Consequences

Violations of these guidelines may result in:

  • Removal of the offending content without notice.
  • A warning issued to the account holder.
  • Temporary suspension of the account.
  • Permanent termination of the account for serious or repeated violations.

In cases involving potential criminal activity, we may disclose information to New Zealand law enforcement authorities in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
